Genesee Reading Series (2-8-11)

The Genesee Reading Series continues to celebrate the 30th Anniversary of Writers & Books with a program featuring two of the area’s notable poets and favorite alumnae of the GRS, Linda Allardt and Kathleen Wakefield.

Linda AllardtLinda Allardt has published three books of poems, The Names of the Survivors, River Effect, and Accused of Wisdom, and a renga, Stalking Reflections, written with Virginia Elson. She was one of the editors of State Street Press, and she taught creative writing at the University of Rochester, where she was one of the editors of Emerson’s journals and notebooks, including The Poetry Notebooks of Ralph Waldo Emerson (University of Missouri Press). She has taught at Eastman School of Music, St. John Fisher, and Writers & Books.

Kathleen WakefieldKathleen Wakefield‘s book, Notations on the Visible World (Anhinga Press, 2000), won the 1999 Anhinga Prize for Poetry. She also has a chapbook from State Street Press, There and Back (1993). Recent poems have appeared in The Georgia Review, Southern Humanities Review, Image, Rattle, and River Styx, and she has work forthcoming in The Sewanee Review. She has taught creative writing at the University of Rochester and The Eastman School of Music, and she works as poet-in-residence at several local schools.

The Genesee Reading Series will be held at Writers & Books, located at 740 University Avenue, Rochester, NY 14607, on Tuesday, February 8, 2011, at 7:30 pm. Admission is $3 for members and $6 for the general public.
