Jennifer de Winter: Playing with Poetry: Videogames, Language, and Emotional Interactivity (4-4-11)

Monday, April 4, 2011, at 7:30 p.m., St. John Fisher College English Department Fr. John Cavanaugh Reading Series presents a lecture by Jennifer de Winter: “Playing with Poetry: Videogames, Language, and Emotional Interactivity.” The event will occur at St. John Fisher College campus, Wegmans Nursing Bldg, Rm 100. The event is free and open to the public.

Jennfer de WinterJennifer de Winter is a professor of rhetoric at Worcester Polytechnic Institute, where she teaches courses in communication, professional writing, and computer games. She is associated faculty of the Interactive Media and Games Development program at WPI and an active member of the Learning Games Initiative, a group that studies the educational benefits of computer games. Among her other research interests, Jennifer explores the intersections of computer games with cultural practices and communications. Her past publications examine literacy practices in the computer game fields, the intersecting histories of computer games with anime, manga, and toys, and even how to teach different classes and topics with games. She is currently writing a book on computer games as art – that is,a medium by which developers and artists are exploring complex political and humanisticquestions.
