Just Poets Annual Summer Picnic 2001 – A Recap

On June 4, Just Poets gathered for the annual summer picnic hosted this year by Ed Scutt.

Aside from confirming the slate of officers for the next year, the bi-annual picnics (summer and winter) are an opportunity for poets to share a poem. This summer, several people shared work by other poets. It’s a pleasant reminder to think about memorizing a favorite poem!

Here are some the people and poems that were shared:

  • Donna Marbach recited “Parable” from the Palette & Quills contest winning chapbook – Pure Elysium by Michael Meyerhofer.
  • Colleen Powderly recited “Morning Visit” by Pat Janus.
  • Elaine Olsson read “The Lived In Look” by Marge Piercy.
  • Joe St. Martin recited from memory Alfred de Musset’s “Le Joli Mois de Mars” in French and English.
  • Dwain Wilder recited from memory “The Sycophantic Fox and the Gullible Raven” by Guy Wetmore Carryl.
  • Leah Zazulyer read Israel Emiot’s “As Long As You Are Not Alone” in  English and Yiddish.

  1. I think Kitty is collecting the poems. Mine was called “Dancing One’s Inner Animal.”

  2. And Joe St. Martin’s French pronunciation was impeccable! I only wish I understood Yiddish.
