April is National Poetry Month!

Write on!

If you are not subscribed to “poem a day” sites, this is a good month to start.  I particularly enjoy Knopf’s site, which not only posts a poem a day for April, but has links to other poets posting their work, and an invitation to post your work.   Knopf, Poetry  (http://poem-a-day.knopfdoubleday.com/

Many of you use already Writers’ Almanac, www.poets.org/poemADay.php, and more.  If you have a favorite site, or come across a poem which perks your interest, please send it to me at

kjospe1@rochester.rr.com.

Last year, Just Poets shared a poem (by a poet other than oneself)  along with a 30-word description of why it was chosen.  We then read aloud the poems at our April meeting.

This year, the same opportunity is available.  At the April 14th meeting, we will read aloud the poems and the reasons they were chosen.  If you can’t attend the meeting, you have the option of asking your choice to be read outloud.  The list so far:

from G. E. Schwartz:  THE INVISIBLE KINGDOM by Kathleen Raine…

from Jane Black :  ANNABEL LEE by Edgar Allan Poe

from Lori Nolasco: [ANYONE LIVED IN A PRETTY HOW TOWN] by E. E. Cummings
