OCTOBER EVENTS: OCTOBER 1-11

Tues., Oct. 2: 8-9 pm, “Authors Aloud!” Reading Series at The Little Theater, Rochester, featuring poets Patricia Roth Schwartz and Jacob Rackovan. Free.

Thurs, October 4, 2 pm : ribbon-cutting for Poets Walk, outside the Memorial Art Gallery, at 2 pm. Inaugural reading on Friday, October 5, at the pavilion near entrance to Memorial Art Gallery, 500 University Ave., Rochester, NY starting at 6:30.

Fri, Oct. 5, 5 pm-9 pm: The Flying Squirrel Community Center, 285 Clarissa St., Rochester, “An Evening of Inmates’ Poetry,” celebrating the work of Michael Rhynes (Auburn CF) and Jalil Muntaqim (Attica CF): reading from these inmates’ books will be Patricia Roth Schwartz, Paulette Swartzfager, Lori Nolasco, Dwain Wilder, Ed Scutt, and others; Muntaqim’s new book, Exiting the Prism— Fade to Black…” has just been published by Olive Trees, and will be available, along with Rhynes’ chapbook, Guerillas in the Mist; other works by inmates will be sold also; this is a benefit for their legal fees; potluck at 6 pm (bring dish to pass); reading at 7 pm. Free.

Saturday Oct. 6, 1:30-4 Just Poets Meeting and Workshop!  This is an important meeting for all members.  Mail in your proxies as soon as possible.  If you want to participate in the workshop following, kindly bring 8- 10 copies of your poem.  St. John Fisher College; Campus Center, COP Room.

Sunday Oct. 7, 2-3:30 pm.  EE Cummings:  The presentation will draw on a small sampling of his 2,900  poems and 1600 works of art, the turn of the century excitement of “futurism” and response to  Ezra Pound’s exhortation  to “Make it New”.  Kitty Jospé.  Pittsford Community Library, 24 State St., Pittsford, NY.  To register: 249-5481.  Free.

Tues, Oct. 9, 6:30-8 pm: Geneva Public Library, Geneva: Writers’ Support Group facilitated by GPL’s writer-in-residence, Patricia Roth Schwartz; group meets monthly; all genres, all ages.  Free.

Tues, Oct. 9:  7:30 pm.  Genesee Readers series hosted by Wanda Schubmehl. Two stalwart poet-editors, both of whom were awarded Lifetime Memberships in JP last year, Thom Ward and Norm Davis, are the featured readers in October’s Genesee Series at Writers & Books. $3 W&B members / $6 general public.

Wednesday, October 10, 7 pm: Reading and book Launch by JP member Martha Deed at Talking Leaves Bookstore, 3518 N. Main St., Buffalo. If you haven’t made it over to Talking Leaves, you must check out one of the nation’s finest independents, a goldmine for poetry!

Wed, Oct, 10, 7 pm: “Why Is Gatsby Great? and Other Novel Questions” a talk by Patricia Roth Schwartz on the writing of fiction and the appreciation of contemporary novels; Geneva Public Library, Geneva, to kick-off their support of the National-Write-a Novel-in-a-Month program starting Nov. 1, 2012. Free.

Wed, Oct. 10, 8 pm: SUNY Brockport Writers’ Forum: Ann Panning, Fiction; Chris Norment, Essayist.The New York Room, Cooper Hall, SUNY Brockport, Brockport, NY

Thurs, Oct. 11: 7 pm:Open Mic at Barnes and Noble Booksellers, Pittsford Plaza.  Anita J. Augesen featured reader followed by an Open Mic.  Free and Open to the public.
