Tues, Oct. 9:  7:30 pm.  Genesee Readers series hosted by Wanda Schubmehl who says : Do not  miss this opportunity to hear two great Rochester Powerhouse of Poetry, on the same stage!  Writers and Books may never be the same!  When people ask you, “Where were you the evening of October 9?” you want to be able to say, “I was at Writers and Books with Thom and Norm!”   Thom Ward and Norm Davis, stalwart poet-editors, both of whom were awarded Lifetime Memberships in JP last year, are the featured readers in October’s Genesee Series at Writers & Books. $3 W&B members / $6 general public.

Tues, Oct. 9, 6:30-8 pm: Geneva Public Library, Geneva: Writers’ Support Group facilitated by GPL’s writer-in-residence, Patricia Roth Schwartz; group meets monthly; all genres, all ages.  Free.

Wednesday, October 10, 7 pm: Reading and book Launch by JP member Martha Deed at Talking Leaves Bookstore, 3518 N. Main St., Buffalo. If you haven’t made it over to Talking Leaves, you must check out one of the nation’s finest independents, a goldmine for poetry!

Wed, Oct, 10, 7 pm: “Why Is Gatsby Great? and Other Novel Questions” a talk by Patricia Roth Schwartz on the writing of fiction and the appreciation of contemporary novels; Geneva Public Library, Geneva, to kick-off their support of the National-Write-a Novel-in-a-Month program starting Nov. 1, 2012. Free.

Thurs.  Oct. 18: 7:00 pm:  Writers and Books.  Poetry Reading by Lynn Ciesielski and Kitty Jospé, followed by wine & cheese. $3 for members, $4 for general public.

Fri, Oct. 19, 7 pm: Sonja Livingston, speaking on memoir writing and reading from her award-winning book, Ghostbread. Free

Sat. Oct. 20, 1-4 pm: Memoir Writing workshop by Sonja Livingston.  Free.

Saturday, October 20: Annual Just Poets Retreat at the Gell Center, Bristol Hills, Naples, NY. We’re going to keep this one simple, with coffee hour 9-10, then short presentations on Adrienne Rich and Lucille Clifton, followed by poetry exercises, lunch, and afternoon open mic.   $10 for Just Poets members. Panelists include Molly Cort (Managing Editor of RIT’s Cary Press); Robert Glick, Assistant Professor of English, RIT, and Fiction Editor for Verso (Amsterdam); Selma (Sebby) Wilson Jacobson, Lecturer in English, RIT, and longtime Democrat & Chronicle Features Editor; and Karen Van Meenen, Lecturer in English, RIT and Editor of Afterimage (Visual Studies Workshop’s photography journal), as well as editor of several publications for Writers & Books’ Big Pencil Press.
