Colleen at Kona Tomorrow!

Colleen Powderly will be the featured reader at the Pure Kona Poetry Reading on Wednesday, July 17, at 7:30 p.m. at the Acanthus Café on East Avenue (between Alexander St & Union St).

The Pure Kona Weekly Reading & Open Mic recently celebrated its 20th anniversary. It’s easily the longest-running poetry event in the area, and features an eclectic mix of poets and musicians who bring passion and power to bear on an array of topics—their work is sometimes personal, sometimes political, and often just plain funny!

The Acanthus Café has coffee, tea, wine & beer, and a tasty selection of appetizers, soups, salads, and light entrees (and some luscious desserts!)—all made to order and very reasonably priced.

The café is located on East Avenue between Alexander & Union, next to Subway and across from Cam’s Pizzeria (for those who like landmarks). There’s on-street parking (free after 6 p.m.) as well as a parking lot nearby.

It’s been several years since Colleen last was Pure Kona’s featured reader, and she’s looking forward to sharing her recent poems, many of which have never been read publically. And of course there’s an open mic following her reading, so she’s hoping to hear some other Just Poets members’ work!

So mark your calendars now—Wednesday, July 17, 7:30 p.m. at the Acanthus Café! Bring a couple of poems & join the fun!
